Grape vine clippings available at Flag Hill
Whether you're interested in starting a few vines at home or prefer the vines for decoration, the vines are ready for taking out of the field starting Saturday, March 22. Please read below for more information about available pickup times.
1. The public may traverse the vineyard and pickup clippings during Flag Hill's open hours of operation which are: Wednesday through Sunday, 11am-5pm. For safety issues, please stop in to the tasting room & gift store before proceeding into the vineyard.
2. Keep in mind that clippings are left in the rows in the field, so good walking shoes and weather appropriate attire is suggested. There is still snow in the vineyard as of March 19th.
3. The clippings can be fairly lengthy in size. It is suggested that you might want to bring a pair of hand held pruning shears to clip some of them down to manageable size for carrying and transporting. Depending on how many you intend on taking, a small wheel barrow or garden cart can be helpful.
4. Currently there are Cayuga (white American hybrid grapes) and Marechal Foch (red french hybrid) clippings available. As the weeks pass other clippings will become available. If you would like additional emails regarding the vineyard clippings available please email wine-info@flaghill.com and ask to be put on the 2008 Clippings Email List.
For those interested in using the clippings to begin growing your own grapevine, owner Frank Reinhold will host a question and information session at 11AM on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Flag Hill Winery & Distillery in Lee, NH. There is no cost and no need to sign up for this, just show up in the Tasting Room & Gift Store at 11AM.
Even if you are waiting for other grape varieties to become available, if you are interested in any aspect of growing and pruning the clippings you take, it is suggested you try and attend this session, as this is information you most likely would not get when stopping by on other random days for getting the clippings.
Depending on interest we may attempt to hold another session at a later date.
